Dunrobin Castle - Scotland

the clan sutherland room

Sutherlands from all over the world gather here every four years.

The adjoining passage overlooks the 13th century Keep, its entrance guarded by an iron yett.  St John’s Well, within the courtyard, supplied the original fortified house and was cut through rock to water at a depth of 92 feet.  It is one of the deepest draw wells in Scotland.

tea room

Underneath the floorboards there are miles of brass wire, still in Tea Roomperfect condition.  These connected to an enormous bell board, which enabled the servants to be summoned to any part of the building.  The system continued to function until the installation of an electric bell system in the 1930s.
